Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Science's Associate of Science in Respiratory Care Program prepares students to achieve a career as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.  Respiratory Care Practitioners evaluate, treat, and care for patients who may have a wide variety of breathing problems or cardiopulmonary disorders. A Respiratory Care Practitioner works under the direction of a physician to provide care to all ages including premature infants all the way to elderly patients. The BRCN Respiratory Care Program is Provisionally Accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

Program Mission:
The mission of the Blessing-Rieman Respiratory Care Program is to offer the highest quality of education in a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, encourages professional leadership, and instills a strong appreciation of ethical values and human diversity. The program emphasizes critical care, acute care, neonatal/pediatrics, cardiac care, home care, polysomnography, and pulmonary diagnostics. Following the standards established by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), the curriculum provides students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be outstanding patient care providers as respiratory therapists.   

Program Details:
The Respiratory Care Program is a 3-semester program starting each year in May.  You will complete 43 credit hours of Respiratory Care courses after completing the required pre-requisite courses. In addition to classroom time you will complete 900 hours of hands-on clinical experience at 5 different clinical sites. Additional information can be found in the student handbook.

Pre-requisite Courses (total 32 credit hours):

  • Fundamentals of Public Speaking- 3 credit hours
  • English Composition I- 3 credit hours
  • Ethics- 3 credit hours
  • History/Literature or Fine Art- 3 credit hours
  • College Algebra or Statistics- 3 credit hours
  • Anatomy & Physiology I- 4 credit hours
  • Anatomy & Physiology II- 4 credit hours
  • Microbiology- 3 credit hours
  • Inorganic & Biochemistry- 3 credit hours
  • Introduction to Psychology- 3 credit hours

Requirements:

  • ACT of 22 or higher (1030-1050 SAT equivalent)
    • For ACT's below 22- students are required to take the HESI Admissions Assessment Exam prior to acceptance
  • 2.7 Cumulative Transfer Grade Point Average
  • 2.7 Support Course Grade Point Average
  • Completion of all pre-requisite courses (listed above) with a grade of C or higher

Financial Aid Information

Tuition Per Semester (3 Semesters) - $5000
Student Assistant Program per semester - $17.50
Lab Fee Per Clinical Course - $100
Testing Fee Per Semester - $185
Graduation Fee-$160

Additional Costs: Students are responsible for transportation costs to clinical sites as well as 3 overnight stays total during clinical rotation.
