About Me

After emigrating from Korea, Dr. Stambaugh and his mother made San Diego their home. He admits that, as a youngster, he spent more time surfing than thinking about his future until a high school counselor helped him refocus.

“He asked me what I was going to do for college. I told him, I don’t know. My mom does piece work at a clothing factory and I don’t think we can afford to go to college,” Dr. Stambaugh recalled.

The counselor encouraged him to consider applying to a military academy because there was no application fee and the government would pay him to go to school.

Dr. Stambaugh was accepted to West Point Military Academy and spent 24 years in the military. His service included graduating from medical school, completing residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and receiving the Legion of Merit Medal.

Among Dr. Stambaugh’s many medical accomplishments during his military career was serving as Chief and Director of the Residency Program, otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Walter Reed; and as Consultant in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery to the Surgeon General of the Army, Washington, D.C.

After completing his military service, Dr. Stambaugh was a member of a busy private practice with a large multi-specialty provider group in New York state. He brought his skills to Quincy and Blessing at the suggestion of long-time friend and Blessing otolaryngologist, Dr. Myron Jones.
