Terry Henry’s ability to connect with a suicidal patient led to his nomination for and receipt of an ICARE Award for Excellence.

Terry Henry

The nomination for Terry, inpatient intervention therapist, stated in part: “Over the course of several months I have been working with a patient who has a long history of suicidal ideations. Due to this chronic history, the patient was very discouraged and not seeing hope for their future.

The patient has been admitted to the inpatient unit several times. During the most recent admission, Terry was able to connect with them, leading the patient to begin to open up regarding years of trauma that contributed to their suicidal ideations. Prior to this admission, the patient had not felt comfortable discussing the trauma they had experienced. Due to Terry's unwavering commitment, this patient is feeling seen, and now has hope."

"During this process Terry has also communicated with my department in order to provide collaborative care for the patient. Terry goes above and beyond for our patients. Every team should have a Terry.”

Blessing Health System employees nominate coworkers for an ICARE Award based on the nominee’s demonstration of one of the organization’s values - integrity, compassion, accountability, respect or excellence (ICARE) – or all five Blessing values.
