When a woman experienced heart attack symptoms three weeks after a heart attack that required three stents, her frightened daughter – a Blessing employee - brought her to the Emergency Center. There she found a cure for her mother’s symptoms, and for her own fear, in the person of Emergency Center physician, Dr. Roman Fridline.
Dr. Fridline recently received a Blessing Health System ICARE award for Compassion as a result of the interaction.
“While in the ER her heart rate was 140ish, so she was in atrial fibrillation (AFib, an abnormal heart rhythm),” the daughter’s nomination read about her mother’s care. “The nurses were giving her medication for this through IV. All of a sudden, my mom said “uggghh” and alarms went off. I went out and got the doctors and nurses.
They rushed in and Dr. Fridline got to his knees, comforting her, telling her to breathe and rubbing her shoulder. She was going into normal rhythm. She didn’t know it would happen that fast, nor did they, and they said her heart had stopped for a few seconds. The doctor never once left her side, nor did he stop telling her to take short breaths in and out - very comforting and very caring.
I have never felt more comfortable in the ER than I did that morning with him beside my mother. Thank you, Dr. Fridline, for being on our team.”
Blessing Health System employees nominate coworkers for an ICARE award based on the nominee’s demonstration of one of the organization’s values - integrity, compassion, accountability, respect or excellence (ICARE) – or of all five values.
