Two staff members of the Office Orthopedics Department; Carrie Bennett, Nurse Practitioner and Amanda Smith, Orthopedic Tech, received a Who’s Your Angel nomination from Dr. Sean and Molly Moroze. The Foundation Office presented the Who’s Your Angel awards on April 16.
Molly stated, “Our son Kane took a fall on the playground and we could tell immediately that something was wrong. He rarely complains and usually is back on his feet, but he was holding his wrist in a way that even my husband as an Orthopedic surgeon was concerned. Carrie had just wrapped up the first full day of using Epic at clinic, when Sean texted her for help. She was willing to wait and make Kane feel comforted and calm. She was instrumental in my son being able to be brave and get his wrist reduced and splinted. She gave us all a sense of calm and in a situation that was stressful, it was a gift to us! Amanda had just wrapped a long day of clinic, when she heard we were on our way to get Kane's wrist checked. She was kind enough to opt to wait it out when she had her own family obligations. She was so gentle with helping to get Kane's arm splinted and make him understand what she was doing and how it was going to help. She exemplified selflessness and kindness in a situation that was unfamiliar to my son, which allowed him to be brave and ultimately walk out that evening with a smile. Thank you!”
The “Who’s Your Angel” program is an opportunity for patients and their families to express their appreciation to anyone in the Health System who had a positive influence in their healthcare experience. When the donor makes a financial gift in the name of the employee and writes up a story sharing the experience, the Foundation deposits the gift to the patient care area or restricted fund that most closely matches the employee(s) being honored or the reason for the patient’s time with the Health System. This donation was deposited to the Caring Club Fund. One hundred percent of Foundation gifts are designated to caring for patients in need.
Any staff member can be nominated for a Who’s Your Angel award. Nomination forms can be found in various Health System departments and is always available at blessinghealth.org/angel.
