The Blessing Hospital cafeteria serves a wide variety of ready-made and to-go food to hundreds of customers each day. But it’s the kindness served by the cafeteria staff that adds that special touch to every meal. It’s that same kindness and positivity that have earned Food & Nutrition employee Darrick Mayfield the latest Honey Bee Award.

Darrick was nominated for the impact he makes on patients, visitors, and fellow employees through his daily interactions in the cafeteria. According to one nomination, Darrick is “always so upbeat and positive,” greeting everyone with a smile and exceptional service.

His ability to connect with others extends far beyond a friendly greeting. In a separate nomination, an employee shared that after their dog passed away on the morning before work, they found themselves struggling through the day. When they arrived in the cafeteria, Darrick immediately recognized something was wrong and took the time to listen.

“Darrick is truly the most kind, selfless, and caring individual,” the nomination shared. “He never fails to be what I would consider a ray of sunshine.” The nominator added that Darrick is always striving to offer genuine kindness and support to everyone he encounters, expressing gratitude for the positive impact he makes at Blessing every day.

His nominator also noted that Darrick “gives a constant reminder to take a minute and step away from the constant hustle and bustle of the hospital.” That attitude helps create a welcoming environment where people feel valued and appreciated.

Darrick’s commitment to service extends beyond his own responsibilities. The nomination highlighted an occasion when he stepped in to assist a coworker who was becoming overwhelmed by a rush of customers, demonstrating the teamwork and support that help make Blessing a great place to work.

“Darrick is an all-around pleasure to see in the cafeteria,” one nominator shared. “I am sure he makes others’ days a bit brighter.”

While his interactions may seem simple, the positivity, kindness, and teamwork Darrick brings to work each day leave a lasting impression on those around him. Congratulations, Darrick, and thank you for helping make every visit to the cafeteria a brighter experience.
