For the second year in a row, Blessing Hospital and its Life Team have been awarded Platinum recognition from the federal Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network for “saving and healing lives by encouraging their employees and communities to register as organ, eye and tissue donors” through the National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign.
Striking a blow against heart failure
New technology in use at Blessing will improve the quality of life of heart failure patients. The tiny device is called CardioMEMS. It is placed directly into the pulmonary artery during a non-surgical procedure and records the pressure inside the lungs.
“It measures the vibrations from blood flow within the lungs without the use of any batteries or other power supply,” explained Dr. Krause.
Grieving parents find a priceless gift at Blessing Hospital
The pain of their losses led Sara and Christina to research ways other grieving parents could have what they did not - more time with their children who are stillborn or die shortly after birth. Their research led them to the “Cuddle Cot.” Made in Europe, Cuddle Cots look like baby bassinets. The difference is that they are connected to a cooling system that creates additional time for the family to be together by slowing down the natural processes after a death.
