The people and organizations of the Quincy region are known for their generosity and compassion. When they see a need, they respond — through the Good News of Christmas campaign; the annual Salvation Army red kettle drive; support of the United Way and its agencies; or helping a neighbor in need after a fire, flood or devastating medical diagnosis. Registration open for 2023 Pink Pass It On in the District 5K Walk

Registration is now open for the 17th annual “Pink Pass It On in the District” 5K Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness. The walk will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2023. All proceeds benefit the Blessing Foundation Breast Center Financial Assistance Program.

Blessing Hospital organ and tissue donation efforts earn national recognition

For the second year in a row, Blessing Hospital and its Life Team have been awarded Platinum recognition from the federal Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network for “saving and healing lives by encouraging their employees and communities to register as organ, eye and tissue donors” through the National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign.

Nurse practitioner providing specialized care to premature babies at Blessing Hospital

One in ten babies in the United States is born prematurely, according to the March of Dimes. Prematurity can cause problems for babies throughout their lives. Until recently, most premature babies born at Blessing Hospital were transferred to a neonatal unit in Springfield, Illinois or St. Louis, Missouri. That is changing now that Lacy Nichols, APRN, NNP, is on the job as Blessing Health’s neonatal nurse practitioner.

National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week is September 7-13. There are an average of 123 suicides each day in this country. Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the US and the third leading cause of death among 15 to 24-year-olds.
