Blessing Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation department recently achieved a level of success a majority of healthcare providers worldwide don’t reach.
The department received continuing accreditation from the international rehabilitation accrediting organization, CARF, for a three-year period with no recommendations for improvement sited in the survey report. Only 3% of surveyed programs nationally and internationally receive an accreditation survey report with no recommendations for improvement.
Blessing Hospital offers the region’s only CARF accredited inpatient physical rehabilitation program. On average over 300 patients a year who experience a wide range of debilitating conditions receive this care. Conditions treated include spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, amputation, arthritis, stroke, fractures, multiple trauma and neuromuscular diseases. The goal of inpatient rehabilitative care is to help the patient regain as much independence in their daily life as possible.
Surveyors sited the following strengths after Blessing’s most recent survey:
• Persons served consistently expressed high satisfaction with their rehabilitation experiences, noting that the rehabilitation team actively involves them in goal setting and care planning. The unit demonstrates a strong commitment to person-centered care by encouraging active participation in therapy and tailoring services to support each person's personal goals, preferences, and needs throughout the rehabilitation process. And,
• the inpatient rehabilitation unit is supported by a cohesive and dedicated interdisciplinary team whose members have demonstrated long-term commitment to the organization. Their longevity has fostered strong collaboration, clinical consistency, and the development of a robust rehabilitation program that effectively meets the diverse and complex needs of the population served.
CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through the accreditation process, and continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Blessing has held CARF inpatient rehabilitation accreditation continuously since 1998.
Blessing Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation caregiving team consists of a physiatrist (rehabilitation physician specialist), RNs, CNAs, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, techs, admissions coordinators, discharge planners and unit secretaries.
