For the past four years, the Facilities Support and Security teams have held a food drive for the Horizons Food Pantry in advance of the holiday season. This year’s drive is particularly critical even without the approaching holidays.

The federal government shutdown has stopped funding for the nationwide SNAP food assistance program. That has led to a rise in the number of people, already facing food insecurity, who are in crisis. On top of that, grants to community food pantries have been reduced. In late October, for the first time ever, Horizons had to turn away a people in need due to a lack of food to distribute.

That makes the more than 400 items / 615 pounds donated by the Blessing Facilities Support and Security teams to Horizons this year even more critical for those in need in the communities Blessing serves.

Pam DeJaynes, secretary, Maintenance, facilitates the food drive and says the secret ingredient in its recipe for success is compassion. “The team always steps up,” she said. “I’m so proud of my team!”
