The lesson Angie Hancox takes from Blessing Hospital is timeless when she retires on September 11 after a 41-year nursing career.
“Treat others as you would want to be treated," she said. “I chose nursing to make a difference in people's lives. I have received so many hugs and thank you's from patients and families. They are what got me through difficult days and kept me coming back.”
Angie began her career on Intensive Care Unit where she spent 11 years and says she worked with mentors who provided her a “great foundation” for her nursing career. Angie went on to work in the Clinical Documentation Management Program (CDMP), Process Improvement, and for 22 years as a Clinical Care Coordinator. She retires as Inpatient Care Coordinator in the Care Coordination department. Angie has been honored as Employee of the Year and as Nurse of the Year during her career at Blessing.
“I have enjoyed the opportunity to do a variety of jobs while not having to leave Blessing,” she continued. “And I am most proud of being a pioneer in three of my roles - Care Manager, CDMP nurse and first nurse hired in Process Improvement.”
A native of Jerseyville, Illinois, Angie came to Quincy to attend nursing school. She is a two-time graduate of Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, and is an Accredited Case Management Registered Nurse (ACM-RN).
She and husband Mike are members of and volunteer with St. Peter Church in Quincy. They have three children and a granddaughter.
