After a 41-year, memory-filled career with Blessing Health System, Laurie Brink, BSN, RN, clinic registered nurse, Neurosurgery, retires on July 31.
“I have met some amazing people and have been inspired by great leaders,” she said. “I will treasure the memories of the patients, co-workers and physicians I encountered.”
A graduate of Blessing School of Nursing and Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences/Quincy University, Laurie’s career began on Blessing Hospital’s “Special Care Unit” which, in 1985, included Intensive, Cardiac and Intermediate Care all in one location.
After 9 years at the bedside in the Special Care Unit, Laurie tried something new. She joined the former Quincy Health Care Management, a managed care company that was operated by Blessing and Quincy Medical Group.
After eight years in managed care, Laurie returned to Blessing Hospital as a member of the newly formed Clinical Documentation Management team. From there she joined Care Management, working on the oncology unit.
Laurie’s next career move was to become a leader, managing several service lines within Blessing’s provider group, the last of those positions being as clinical manager of the Musculoskeletal service line.
In anticipation of her retirement, Laurie’s final career move was to transition to the position from which she is retiring in Neurosurgery.
During Nurse Week 2025, Laurie received the DAISY Transformational Leader Award. The nomination read, in part, “Laurie is patient, kind, and caring. All the qualities you would hope for in a co-worker and manager. There isn't one thing that she can't do. Laurie is a go-getter and sometimes it’s hard to keep up with her. She deserves to be recognized for her grit, strength, and resilience.”
“I have been blessed to utilize my nursing degree in so many varied roles throughout my career,” Laurie concluded.
