Vascular RN Wins Who's Your Angel Award
Stormy Leazer, RN-Vascular Access Team, Radiology Vascular Access, received a Who’s Your Angel nomination from fellow employee Melissa Dewitt, Unit Secretary, Gen Med/Hospitalist/ODU. The Foundation Office presented the Who’s Your Angel award on April 29.
What does “exceptional care” look like?
Exceptional care looks different through the lens of each Blessing Health System affiliate. At Illini Community Hospital, exceptional care is being in the top 10% of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in the country for exceptional care transitions for all emergency department transfer patients, as recognized by the Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Program (MBQIP).
What should a prostate cancer screening include and when should screening begin?
Some providers do a blood test called a Prostate Specific Antigen test only (PSA). If a man’s PSA level trends up over time, it could be an indication of prostate cancer. Other providers order a PSA test and conduct a digital rectal exam (DRE). Blessing Health board-certified urologist William Severino, feels both tests deliver the most complete picture.
Striking a blow against heart failure
New technology in use at Blessing will improve the quality of life of heart failure patients. The tiny device is called CardioMEMS. It is placed directly into the pulmonary artery during a non-surgical procedure and records the pressure inside the lungs.
“It measures the vibrations from blood flow within the lungs without the use of any batteries or other power supply,” explained Dr. Krause.
Blessing offers free colorectal cancer screening kits in March
In recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Blessing Health is providing free, take-home colorectal cancer screening kits to the public at locations in west central Illinois and northeast Missouri. The kits are available beginning Monday, March 2 and while supplies last.
