Our pulmonary specialists help patients effectively treat or manage breathing problems that stem from a range of conditions and diseases. These include:
-
COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder
-
Pneumonia
-
Interstitial lung disease
Pulmonary Diagnosis
Depending on your signs or symptoms, you may undergo one or multiple diagnostic tests as our specialists work to pinpoint the cause of your breathing problem. Common tests we perform include:
-
Breathing tests, such as a pulmonary function test, where you blow into a tube so doctors can measure your lung capacity. This can help diagnose COPD.
-
6-minute walk test measures your lung function after a short walk.
-
Overnight pulse oximetry measures blood oxygen levels as you sleep.
-
Sleep studies evaluate the quality of your sleep and can help doctors diagnose sleep apnea.
-
Imaging tests, such as chest X-ray and CT, can help doctors diagnose pneumonia or lung cancer.
-
Bronchoscopy with biopsy lets your doctor examine your airway and take a sample to analyze. We offer sedation and anesthesia so you will be comfortable during the procedure. A biopsy can help diagnose lung cancer.
Pulmonary Treatments
Based on your diagnosis and symptoms, our specialists will determine which treatments are best for you. This may include:
-
Medication therapy, such as inhalers or nebulizers
-
Pulmonary rehab, a 12-week program for patients with COPD that uses breathing exercises to improve lung function. The vast majority of patients who go to pulmonary rehab see a big improvement in their shortness of breath and breathing concerns. Learn more about our pulmonary rehab program.
