WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY?

  • Are you a candidate for weight loss surgery? Click here to download and fill out our patient health history form.
  • Individual is 21-65 years old.
  • Individual has a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 40-60 - or greater than or equal to 35 and accompanied by at least one medical conditions such as a sleep disorder/CPAP usage, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, heart disease, hyperlipidemia or hypertension, are candidates to start the Weight Loss Program. To be a surgical bariatric candidate your BMI needs to be 50 or below.
  • Individual is motivated and willing to work with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Individual is deemed an acceptable risk for surgery. The initial medical screening at enrollment should reveal that the patient is able to ambulate at least 25 feet, does not require home oxygen use and does not surpass the above-mentioned age and BMI criteria.

WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY PROCEDURES

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

This procedure generates weight loss solely through stomach restriction. The amount of food (or calories) that can be eaten is decreased by removing 85% or more of the stomach, thus causing weight loss. This is done without bypassing the intestines or causing any gastrointestinal malabsorption.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE

Lifelong follow-up care after weight-loss surgery is essential and it is available with the Blessing Health System. Support provided includes:
